This beer was first brewed in 1978 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our brewery. It has a golden-yellow color with a slightly flowery yeast, honey-ish aroma, tastes a little spicy and is full-bodied in initial taste, mild before swallowing and soft with a refined sparkle and fades with a well-balanced hint of bitterness. It is an especially drinkable and harmonious beer. Conrad Seidl, known as the Austrian “Pope of Beers”, on the Jahrhundert Bier: “It is a malty beer that pronounces the precious earthy quality of malted barley.”

Perfectly transparent bright golden. White soapy head settles down quite quickly but still leaves nice lacing. Aroma shows hay and cereal, slightest lemon, fresh grass, with good enough intensity and a clean profile. Taste is medium sweet and low to medium in bitterness, with a nicely balanced finish. Slightly crispy malts with notes of hay and cereal, a bit of honey sweetness, grassy hints in the finish and a semi-sweet aftertaste. Simple and clean. Quite light bodied with average, delicate carbonation, resulting in a smooth, easy mouthfeel. Not remarkable to me, but surely a clean, enjoyable easy-drinker.

Bottle bought from the Offie, Leicester. Golden and clear with lots of visible carbonation and a large white head. Malty scent with overtones of honey and a light vegetal note. Tastes sweet with just a light bitter hop character in the finish. Lemon peel and more honey in the afteratste. Lively carbonation. Nice enough but not particularly memorable.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 5C). Bottle 50 cl - Batch L8057 (BBF 11.18). AROMA: medium-low grainy malty sweet character. slight herbaceous hop background. clean fermentation character. APPEARANCE: gold color and translucent. medium white head with good retention. TASTE: similar to the aroma with an overall medium grainy malty sweet character with faint honey notes. slight oxidation background (cardboard). balanced with a medium bitterness profile. finishes bitter and almost dry. PALATE: medium body with carbonation. OVERALL: a nice helles exportbier-like sample at the end of its shelf life but still ver drinkable.

Bottle at Ship & Mature, Liverpool. It pours clear pale yellow with a small white head. The aroma is fresh, sweet, toasty grain, cereal, doughy white bread, nougat, marshmallow and lemon peel. The taste is crisp, clean, bitter - sweet, quite dry, earthy, doughy white bread, cracker, hay, cereal and a touch of lemon peel with a dry finiah. Clean and balanced. Nice stuff.
