On tap at the Alibi Room, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out cloyingly sweet syrupy notes and light roast. Flavour is big and bold, thankfully without the syrupy quality of the nose, with notes of roasted malt, caramel, and a touch of cocoa. Highly roasted and caramely. Well-balanced and flavourful. Good stuff.

2018-02-10, Oxford tasting, Commander Reserva 2013, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Nice arooma, dark malts, spirit, light tar. Solid body, moderate sweetness, dark malts flavor, and very strong petroleum.
Interesting.

Pitch black, pouring oily, very small head. The low tier of carbonation means that the body seems quite thick; it has good notes of Imperial Stout, but the arom aand mostly the flavor have a lot of liquorice. Moderate sweetness. A lot of roasted nuts. There could be some oxidisation, but it gets hidden quite well in this strong beer.

2013-12-25, bottle from Legacy Liquor, Vancouver
Black color, oily pour, difficult head, finally some brownish foam, small. The roasted malt aroma takes a medicinal turn, a bit phenolic; but there is also some nice bread. Soft body; strong roasted malt flavor, not ashy; unfortunately it has a very high level of black liquorice (too much for me); moderate sweetness, it's also fairly salty; strong but not excessive bitterness.
Potent, not elegant; but a good smack-in-the-face beer nevertheless.

650 ml bottle. Pours black with light tan head. Aromas of bacon, cardboard, and licorice. Flavor of fatty smoked bacon, green wood, and black coffee. Interesting and odd. Ingredients indicates white oak. Ingredients? Meaning someone added oak to the brew? Anyways, several negative reviews but for Dead Frog I’d lean on the positive, interesting side. Worth working on this one...

Had this again and glad to report that it's improved a lot. Maybe I had an infected bottle. This one tastes smokey with some tobacco. A little dark chocolate. Bitter finish. Not a perfect beer still but not bad. Bitter end. Jesus, this is probably the worst imperial stout I’ve had to date. I wish I’d read the reviews before I spent $9 on a bottle of this trash. That’s supposed to be what ratebeer is about...making good purchasing decisions. Really just like black twizzlers thrown into a blender with some booze and water. Same cloying flavor. If they took out the alcohol and sold this at movie theatres as a candy drink for kids it might just work. Otherwise there’s going to be a lot more drainpours. Three for three so far by the looks of it. Bomber.
