Our Hop Ottin’ IPA is brewed and dry-hopped with copious amounts of Columbus and Cascade. This beer is a showcase of the bright citrusy aromas, bold grapefruit and pine-like flavors, and resiny bitterness that hop heads crave. With a brilliant, deep amber color and solid malt backbone, hints of citron, roses, and bergamot peak with a dry, herbal finish in this well-balanced interpretation of a West Coast IPA.

Location: Picked up a 12 oz. bottle at Gilly's, drank it 3/16/09
Aroma: Some citrus, honey, floral, hoppy
Appearance: Cloudy, dark orange color, thumb-width, off-white head
Flavor: Strong hop start, with some sweet/malty undertones, and more hops on the finish
Palate: Nice mouthfeel, good light-medium body
Overall Impression: This one is a pretty nice IPA, with a nice bite and a just enough sweetness to give it some complexity.

Shaker pint draft on the beer engine at Llywelyn’s Pub in Overland Park, Kansas. Pour is hazed orange golden with a small white head. Lacing coats the glass thickly. Aroma of faint grassy bitter resin hops. Some flower and herbs. Taste is bitter resin honey floral, some bright pine bitterness on the end. Palate is medium-thin, smooth and silky, coats and refreshes at the same time. Really tasty, nice one.

12 oz. bottle. Pour is toward the dark side of amber, with a thin but frothy IPA style head. Nice piney hop aroma in the pour follows a good malty header when I popped the bottle. Taste just hits with those Northwestern big hops and lets go only long enough to demonstrate a sweet malt base that even had hints of chocolate somewhere in there. Or that’s my stuffy nose mixing me up. Not a big beer, but it sure delivers a big kick. And thus do I kick off 2009! (It’s still Jan. 1 where I am)

Bottle. Pour is a coppery amber with a smallish head and aromas of floral hops, a bit of a scotch-like peatiness and some mild caramel malts undertones. Flavor is much heavier in malt than I expected from the nose, and the hops balance things out nicely… a bit of a floral and resin bite balance things out nicely and finish with a scotch-ale-like aftertaste. This is pretty good, but it reminds me more of a scotch ale than an IPA.
