Le Merle is a rustic ale, pale in color, inspired by the rich brewing traditions of the Flanders region. Abundant hops and a Belgian yeast strain contribute exotic aromas of tropical fruit.

750 ml bottle @Patricks. Hazy orange body with a fine, stable off-white head. Seductive aroma of citric fruit, oranges, barnyard, spices, caramel and hint of perfume. Flavor is refreshing fruity, mild malty, oranges, spices and a hint of warming alcohol. Fine body and pleasant finish with a certain bitterness. This is a fine and exiting sample of a solid Saison. Tastes just better and better for each bottle I have consumed, one of my favorite Saisons.

0.75l bottle @ Henrik, Bergen shared with ClubGonzo. Pours a orange semi-clear body with some small white sediments and a thick twofingersized white everlasting dense head leaving big lacings. Nose is dominated by stingy citrus and champagne yeast, but also hints of sour apple and strawberries. Near aggressive carbonated and medium bodied. Tastes as it should, slightly apple-sour, spruzy, a bit unmasked alcohol and candy-sugar. Ends with a almost mineral-salt-dry and slightly fruity finish.

750 ml corked cottled, as North Coast Le Merle Saison (Belgian Style Farmhouse Ale), courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.9%. Slightly hazy golden colour, huge white head. Sweetish aroma of syrup, farmhouse yeast and rotting fruits / stale berries. High level of carbonation in the mouth. The flavour is better than the aroma, medium sweet and moderately spicy, decent hops in the finish. Quite nice to drink, should also go well with many foods.

A decent taster from a big bottle at Håndverkerstuene, thanks to Bernt for the treat. Modest white head over a partially cloudy, golden body. Sweet and fresh fruits to the nose. Citrus fruits, hints of banana and dusty hops in flavour. Rounded bitter finish. Drinks very well (Oslo, 07.02.2011).

Bottle,75cl corked, at Patricks. It pours an unclear golden-orange body and a nice but diminishing white head. Fruity nose with white sugar. Peaches, some citrus and juniper, slightly yeasty. There’s some alcohol in the mouth, it’s full-bodied and nicely carbonated. The flavor is very fruity, with a good sugary sweetness. Some bitterness and yeasty notes. Bitter and sweet fruity finish. 12 oz. bottle. Pours hazy gold with a huge frothy white head. The nose is wheat, cloves, grapefruit, and under-ripe bananas. The flavor is a strong musty sweetness and enough bitterness from the hops to balance well. The palate is light, smooth, and slightly acidic. Overall, a subtle, flavorful beer.

Rated Oct. 2010. 0.75L pours clear copper with weak off white head. The aroma emits apples, faint soft spicy yeast, a sense of funk and apricot fruitiness. The taste has smooth notes of sweet apple, some apricot and then spicy yeast giving way to soft pillowy yeastiness and honey into the finish.

On tap at the Stags Head. Pours a nice orangy /yellow with huge white head, but since poured in snifter didn’t leave me with a ton of beer once it dissapated. However, nice peppery taste, with grapefruit, bannana, spice, yeast, and sweet tart twang. Good beer

Bottle. Fresh citric yeasty nose, light apples, pears as well. Cloudy yellow, quite carbonated, low white head.Medium body behind the fizyness. Nice simple and subtle citrus, fruit, salty yeast finish, Fresh and pleasant, hits the style notes well.
