Double IPA

Hopslam launched in January of 2006 and changed the craft beer scene forever. One of the first Double IPAs to see wide distribution, Hopslam wows with six hops varietals and a dollop of honey. 10% ABV never went down so smooth!

Selected specifically because of their aromatic qualities, these Pacific Northwest varieties contribute a pungent blend of grapefruit, stone fruit, and floral notes. A generous malt bill and a solid dollop of honey provide just enough body to keep the balance in check, resulting in a remarkably drinkable rendition of the Double IPA style.

2024 can from Trader Joe's. Pours a clear deep gold with a finger of off-white head that dissipates. Lovely aromas of pine, grapefruit flesh, grapefruit zest and honey. Honey more prevalent on the palate with loads of pine and citrus zest. More grapefruit, honey and pine lingering on the finish. Great stuff as usual!

Thanks a lot Nico for this big want! Golden-amber, clear body, with a big, creamy, white head. Aroma of citrus, mango, honey, caramel, biscuit, bread, some pine and resin. Tastes similar, very smooth and balanced. Medium, creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth, bitter, medium sweet, hoppy, citric, resinous, a bit piney, a bit fruity, with some honey and biscuit. Delicious stuff, so balanced, the ABV is completely hidden. Especially the malt body is beautiful, complex and smooth, not too sweet, with a breadiness to it and the honey perfectly integrated, leading to an elegant, creamy character. My can was pretty old (shortly before the bb date), but it held up surprisingly well. I hope I get to try this fresh some day, I guess this will be more hop-forward with even more complexity to it.
