Double IPA

Hopslam launched in January of 2006 and changed the craft beer scene forever. One of the first Double IPAs to see wide distribution, Hopslam wows with six hops varietals and a dollop of honey. 10% ABV never went down so smooth!

Selected specifically because of their aromatic qualities, these Pacific Northwest varieties contribute a pungent blend of grapefruit, stone fruit, and floral notes. A generous malt bill and a solid dollop of honey provide just enough body to keep the balance in check, resulting in a remarkably drinkable rendition of the Double IPA style.

Fresh bottle, thanks Rickert! Second time ever. Pours a light hazy golden/orange colour and a creamy off white head with a small layer retention and some lacing. Aroma's of resinous hops, fresh, green. Retronasal it's quite resinous, but there's also some sweetness, maybe some mint?. Flavour is nicely bittersweet. Medium bodied. Warming alcohol. Long bitter finish. Classic OM.

Earlier Rating: 1/14/2007 Total Score: 3.9 batch 7690, 12 oz bottle from my SS. Pours with a huge, creamy off-white head that rides over a hazy, medium orange body. Moderate bready malt aroma punctuated by a juicy, pineapple-mango hop aroma. The flavor balance goes heavily to the bitter side with this IIPA. Pineapple mango hop flavor that finishes and bitter. I’d like a bit more dryness with a IIPA that has this amount of bitterness.

16th February 2020. Tap in Bangers, Austin, Texas, Beer #4900! Literally just off my flight from U.K. Rainey Street is kicking, it’s 24 degrees and the beer is a monster, clear. Aroma is citrus, pine, taste is bitter and pithy, but so smooth for the abv, marmalade, pith, bitter resin. Love it, and the location is a huge bonus.
