Like a fine port, Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1.100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round out and mellow with age. It’s brewed with classic Maris Otter malt and Fuggles and East Kent Goldings hops, all imported from England.

Copper color and woody and floral aroma. Taste is alcohol, sweet malt, wood, earthy hop bitterness. A lot like barley wine.

12oz bottle. 2021 version. 11.2% ABV. Really delicious Old Ale. Huge malt body, but minimal alcohol heat. Smooth and sweet, not really much of a hop tone to mention. Filtered, clean. Really well executed beer.

Bottle, 0.355l. Aroma of caramel, dried fruit and whiskey. Pours cloudy brown color with thick soapy tan-like head, fair lacing and sparkling appearance. Taste starts with sweet caramel and toasted malt, following is dried fruity, earthy and herbal with warm, alcoholic and mild spicy mouthfeel and light bitter finish. Full body, syrupy texture and lively carbonation in palate. Old but not obsolete…

Bottle. 2018. 12%. Master of Malt. Light haze on a dark copper colour. Wispy off white foam. Nose has walnut and dried fruit. Caramel. Hint of chocolate. Some wet wood and cardboard notes. Taste is pretty sweet and Sherry like, with a leafy and earthy hop bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel with foamy carbonation drinks easy at the ABV. Lingering leafy bitterness to finish. Nice enough but maybe I was expecting more depth.

Bottle picked up from Biervana, Munich, and consumed at home Friday 16th April 2021 listening to Steve Lamaqs Evening Session on 6Music, we had a Lamb and also Chicken Jalfrezi Curry tonight. 2015 vintage, this pours dark brown or more accurately clear mahogany in colour with an off white head. Nice aroma, complex with an earthy hoppy edge, a little hint of spice, dried warm leather, dried peel fruits, wet wood. Flavours similar i.e. dried fruit, wet woodland, rustic earthiness, caramel and toffee, leather, this is really, really good, really nice mouthfeel, no harshness at all from the significant abv, it tastes like a lovely aged Barley Wine.
