This Twisted Oak Stillage special release is matured in freshly emptied rum barrels where it transforms from a fiery red-coloured malt-forward ale, to a deep amber ale wrapped in soft roast flavours & velvety sugarcane sweetness. Best enjoyed in a snifter at cellar temperature (4C).

Awesome red. Vanilla and coconut rum in the aroma. Pours coppery red with some lacing. Tangy finish with a little oak. Average carbonation. Tasted at brewery.

Bottle - Vanilla, milk chocolate and oak. Dark but clear amber with a nice of white head. Velvety smooth vanilla, roasted malts and oak. A nice beer, the rum adding a very sweet but less boozey flavour than other barrels.

650mL bottle, sampled at 16th Street Liquor store (thanks Chris), pours a clear deep amber with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out notes of rum, vanilla and some treacle. Flavour is very similar, incorporating the rum barrels in very tastefully, with strong notes of vanilla, caramel and some red berries. Thin-bodied, but relatively complex. Rum barrels are usually a red flag for me, based on the rum BA beers I've had thus far, but they're actually used very well here, giving off wonderful vanilla notes. Great job here, Phillips.
