Bottle sample at a tasting at Tempo. Thanks Ory. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of citric hops, slightly stale, slightly soapy. Flavor of roast and slightly stale citric and piney hops, with a bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

Clear red to purple brown beer, huge creamy irregular beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: chlorine, bit soapy, peaches and apricots, lots of apricots! MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very hoppy, lots of coffee, bitter hops, bit chemical, fruity, lots of apricots. Aftertaste: bitter, coffee, bit sourish, very fruity, fresh and dried apricots, bitter hops, dry bitter ending. Very decent beer, still too much to the black and not enough to the ipa side for my liking.

Pretty close to black and with a lot of head. Aroma has lots of piney hop and some vague yeasty phenols in the background. Very fruity like chocolate covered oranges, lots of bitterness, dry finish, with a hint of alcohol late. Phenols are very subtle. Nice brew.

Bottle thanks to Matt, shared with friends. Pours near black with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces nicely. Aroma has a combination of dark grains and roasted malts with a nice earthy but bitter pine note. Flavor is similar with dark grains and pine with some roasted malts backing.

From BC Liquors, 7.3% ABV
Black color with generous beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, with a fresh whiff. The mouthfeel is very dry, with strong roasted malt flavor, burnt coffee; strong bitterness with no discernible hop qualities.
Quite good, but too monodimensional.

65 cl bottle. Pours cloudy brown with a huge brown head. Aroma is roasted malty, chocolate and grapefruity. Smooth fruity, grapefruity and citrusy. Lingering fruity and dark malty. Roasted far finish.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a longlasting tan head. Has a roasted malty citrus hoppy aroma. Roasted malty caramel hoppy bitter flavor with hints of licorice. Has a roasted malty caramel hoppy finish with some weak yeasty hints.

very estery, tons of roasty malt, lots of hops. But overall it just doesn’t work for me though I am not a massive Belgian IPA fan.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color ale with a rather large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of dry roasted malt with huge resin and green citrus hoppy notes. Taste is also a good mix between some dry and bitter roasted malt with a side of black chocolate and some aggressive green citrus hops notes with some resinous notes at the end. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed for the style and something I could see myself having again in the future.

(650mL unlabeled Project X bottle from GL) Pours a very dark brown with mahogany highlights and a half inch of frothy tan head without lace. Aroma is citrus hops up front, light chocolate, malt sweetness and faint spicy roast behind. Flavour has big but not overly bitter citrus hop characteristics throughout, with a slightly sweetened coffee malt to begin paired some slightly juicy citrus giving way to light spice and roast malts with an ashy black malt, light pine and citrus-bitter finish. Palate silky and fairly light for the weight, carb lively but reasonably light and little of the alcohol coming through. This is not the biggest black IPA and it is not overly Belgian though rounded and fruity could fit (like Audrey Hopburn) but it is well-balanced with big citrus hops. Very good beer.
