With big, roasted malt character and notes of bitter dark chocolate and coffee, One-Eyed Jacques goes rogue from the fleet of stouts with bold fruity esters, and raisin and fig-like qualities from Belgian yeast and Belgian candi sugar used in the brew. It’s everything you’d want in a stout — dark, rich and full-bodied — all with distinct Belgian character with an underlying sweetness and slight spice.

can, rated in June 2017 - Near black pour. The aroma is of roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, and yeast. The flavor is sweet, roasted malt, dark fruit, and a substantial Belgian yeast character that makes this brew reminiscent of Belgian strong dark ales. Smooth and full bodied. Superb.

Pour is a total black with a large tan head. Aroma is some nice roasted malt with a cherry cordial but also a big alcohol presence. Flavor is sweet roasted malt with some rum soaked dark fruit. I did not get a huge presence of Belgian yeast esters. I did get a bit hit of candi sugar that stays on the tongue for a while. It’s a decent flavorful stout a bit just a bit too sweet for me to give this a higher rating.

Can: Black with a large, thick, dark tan head. Chocolate, mild licorice scent. Taste is sweet, chocolate malt, vanilla, yeast. Very soft and creamy.....light woody bitterness. Pretty good.

16oz can. Opaque brown-black body. Thin beige head. Sweet, slick caramel-chocolate flavor. Dark fruit notes, raisin, fig, pleasant but pronounced. A little sugary, and really lacks any kind of Belgian effervescence or body. Drinkable, not off, but overall mediocre.

Can. Ashy lactic chocolate malt and grass aroma. Dark chestnut brown with large brown head. Moderately sweet chocolate malt, yeast, and moderately bitter quinine/hay flavor. Okay body - light cherry aftertaste.
