IPA - Session Regular Out of Production
Score
6.43
ABV: 4.5% IBU: - Ticks: 22
The hop-dominant flavor and aroma might make you think this is a “bigger” beer, but the drinkable, thirst-quenching attributes of Kicker are enhanced by a lower alcohol content. A light caramel or toffee malt background and light to medium body mouth feel make this session ale a satisfying brew. The aroma delivers a bright hop aroma of citrus, such as grapefruit and tangerine, with a light malt backbone. The hop flavors can be truly fruity, with tangerine and strawberry notes coming from Citra and Amarillo, and a grapefruit and pine taste from Simcoe and Mosaic hops.

Bottle. It pours a clear golden color with a frothy off white head. The aroma is very strong with floral hops, some citrusy orange. Nice fresh hops. There’s some hints of bready and caramel malt in the background. The flavor has some caramel and toffee up front with more orange and flowery hops. Nice light body with a snappiness that helps me forgive the sweeter malt profile. Nice low to medium bitter finish with some lingering caramel maltiness. Overall ok, but not something I’d rush to purchase again.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 9/16/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Awesome appearance. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, melon, passion fruit, berry, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt notes; with decent strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, melon, passion fruit, berry, lemon/orange zest, light pepper/pine, light caramel, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-medium pine/herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, melon, passion fruit, berry, lemon/orange zest, pepper, pine, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and fairly creamy/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a very good session IPA. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. This had a really nice sized malt body for the ABV, vs other session IPAs I have had in the past. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours gold with a white head. Aroma citrus/pine/stone fruit. Med body or so. Flavor is slightly toasty caramel and a mix of citrus/pine/fruit. Mildly bitter. Fairly dry. Sessionable it is.

12 oz bottle from a six pack from the supermarket. Aroma is grainy, faint citrus, cantaloupe, floral, vaguely malty. Pours clear golden with an off-white head with good retention and some lace. Taste is medium level bitter, lightly sweet. A bit bland, but no flaws. Hoppiness is pretty restrained, so it’s basically an APA or even a golden/blonde.

12oz bottle. Filtered orange-tan body. Foamy off-white head, steady. Fresh, clean, well brewed. Middle of the road in flavor. So yeah, highly sessionable, but not that exciting of a flavor profile either. Pretty decent Golden Ale.

Draft at Double Tap. Clear but deep golden with small, tight airy head. Aroma almost non-existent, taste crisp, sharp hoppiness. I would have guessed pilsener. Malt dominates with hop snap at the back.
