Monks brewed this beer for Lent, while fasting they were allotted a few liters of beer a day to sustain life. For forty days all they could consume was beer, so they made it strong, and hearty. Our dopplebock is both strong and hearty, while also being ultra smooth.

Tap at the brewery. Amber-brown body, not much head. Nice flavors, but doesn't quite have the malt depth that it should more a beer so big. Boozy finish, straightforward character of bland 6 percent block. Dextrose pushed?

Pours a hazy amber brown with a small off white head. It has a caramel, fruity malt aroma. The sweet flavor is of cherries and other dark fruit, caramel, and minimal hops. Itβs very malty, but itβs not sickeningly sweet. Full body. Alcohol is mostly buried.

Bottle(2010). Oak, cherry, toffee malt and hay aroma. Amber with small head. Very sweet cherry, toffee malt, and mildly bitter hay/alcohol flavor. Good body. Nice.
