Cloudy amber color, small head. Strange aroma, some hot spices (the ginger probably) and something that seems an initial infection. Smooth mouthfeel, some malt flavor, evident ginger, some bitter orange in the final, and an apparent acidity.
Ok, it’s an experiment... --- Beer merged from original tick of Winter Ale on 06 Apr 2011 at 12:21 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 6 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6.5. Original review text: Bottle from La Mise en Bière, Lausanne
Dark brown color; small head. Strong aroma of Christmas spice mix (gingerbread; pain d’épices), but also a bit soapy, minty and biscuity. Good body strength; there flavor indeed is not simply made by the Christmas spices, but it has some bread and cookies traces, and combined with the orange peels it’s reminiscent of a Christmas Pudding. The bitterness is quite strong, and in the final there is also some more roastiness.
Not my favorite style, but good.
