Aged in fresh Rye Whiskey and Kentucky Bourbon barrels for six weeks, Kentucky Rye Barrel IPA is a unique rye India Pale Ale boasting a citrusy character in the nose and finish. The rye grain, beloved by distillers for decades and embraced by today’s craft brewers, adds complexity and black pepper notes to the brew and highlights the fruity and bitter traits of the hops. Add soft notes of vanilla and woody ribbons of oak and rye from the barrel, and you’ve got a crisp, complex beer to help you awaken from winter hibernation.

Bottle. Golden color with a copper-amber hue. Medium head. Citrus aroma with hints of grains and pine. Taste is slightly sweet upfront with the usual IPA bitter finish.

bottle - Clear amber pour, aroma of bourbon, vanilla, a little citrus. The flavor is sweet malt and bourbon, vanilla, and at most moderate hops bitterness. It's hard to pick up on the rye. Overall it's alright.

Bottle: Clear, dark copper with a small white head. Rye, caramel aroma. Taste is sweet caramel malt, wood, rye/bourbon..... Nice...much more mild and smooth than expected..... Pretty good flavour, but loses points for calling itself an IPA......

Smell of.. fruit? And orange peel. Copper red colour, white head. Aroma of bourbon, oak, alcohol, sugar. Finishes with rye ad hops. No real IPA qualities to be noted, more of a beer version of bourbon. Decent, but not what it promises to be. Bitter with some alcohol sweetness. Semi-oily texture. Rather sharp carbon.

Sample at Bad Parenting Club (plus a few dirty aunt/uncles?!): NC Beer Edition on 03/28/2015. Clear amber color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of citrus, oak and malt. Medium to full body with a fruity and oaky character with grainy malt and mild rye in the background. The finish is hot rye whiskey and fruit. Barely average overall.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark caramel color with a medium sized creamy white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tangy, sweet, fruity, citric and a hint tropical. The flavor was tangy, very sweet, had a moderate bourbon presence, a bit of wood, cactus and a boozy presence. Long tangy and sweet finish with lingering fruit and cactus. Full bodied but undercarbonated.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Shmupi. Clear golden with a white head. Aroma of vanilla, caramel, whiskey, a bit of coconut and wood. Sweet caramelly flavor with a hoppy hint, lots of vanilla, whiskey, wood, and a bitter finish, somewhat boozy. Medium-bodied. Not much IPA, and a bit too boozy, but OK.
