And that includes stopping off at a cosy mountain lodge to enjoy a Hofbräu Winterzwickl – the beer specially brewed for the winter season. Harmoniously strong, with slight hints of caramel and chocolate and a subtle malty note.

500 ml bottle. Pours cloudy medium brown with fluffy head. Roasted malt, chocolate, smoke, caramel, citrus. Taste is bitter, sweet and slightly sour. Creamy texture, full bodied, soft carbonated. Bitter finish. Not bad.

Brown, slightly red, hazy body, with a medium, creamy, dark beige head.
Aroma of toast, bread, grains, cocoa, some chocolate, some caramel, slight dark fruits.
Taste follows this, with some additional honey.
Medium, a bit creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation
Finishes smooth, medium dry, toasty, with some cocoa, some bread.
Very nice. Smooth and really quaffable, with lovely toasty and cocoa notes. Really accomplished style example, my favourite beer by this brewery so far.

Draft (HB Chicago). Straw/grass and creamy barley malt aroma. Cloudy golden yellow with moderate head. Hay and creamy barley malt flavor. Lightly bitter herbal finish. Tastes basically like the Premium Lager unfiltered - still damn good (or maybe it’s been too long since my last fresh Zwickl).

Tap(@Hofbräukeller, Wiener Platz)Hazy, deep amber coloured with a creamy off-white head, caramelly-sweetish nose with mild hoppy background and a mild yeasty-sourish tinge; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied, relatively soft; lingering sweet-caramelly finish with a dood hoppy aftertaste. Not earth-shaking, but well quaffable and well balanced…
