It appears that the powers that be have combined the ratings for the regularly carbonated Three Philosophers and the nitrogen charged Three Philosophers. Whatever. There is a significant difference to me so I will make this rating stand for the regularly carbonated version which is significantly better in my personal opinion and this estimation has increased over time. Three Philosophers - nitrogen charged rating: One 16 oz can out of the four pack I purchased in Cedar Park, TX at a Total Wine. Early on I did not appreciate fully the base Three Philosophers, that has evolved with the years. Now I have a nitrogen charged version to sample, could be a good match. I have an oversized tulip glass from Straffe Hendrik to handle the drink tonight. The serving directions are followed so that I see a dark brown liquid with red edges and a creamy head of fawn tan foam. The scent is your basic quadrupel smell with a background of cherries. The effect is fairly creamy also but not as much as I expected. Tastes of raisins, wheat bread, red cherries, malt and candy. A kinder, gentler quad, I assume Earlier Rating: 1/20/2017 Total Score: 4.1 Very nice try at a Belgian quad, just not the top. Great appearance, dark amber-brown body with a slight tan head. I scent spice and dark fruit, raisin and plum. The taste is more like a subdued black cherry, malt and a hint of the alcohol. Rather Chimayish, good effort at the best.

Can from Beer Republic webshop Breda Netherlands. Had this on Thursday 19th August 2021 en route from Ancona to Patras aboard the Anek Lines, Hellenic Spirit. Pours murky brown with an off white head. Nice aroma, leans towards fruity, cherries but suggests sweetness. Tastes great,. I really wish I had a bit of Bakewell Pudding to have with this, they would work well together. A great quadruple, a little warmth from the abv, tang from the cherries. So nice.

Caramel and sweet plum, fig, or dark fruit aroma. Flavor is smooth alcohol, cherry, sweet malt, like sipping a whiskey.

Bottle pour from Total Wine & More, Burlington. Appearance is lightly hazy (mist of fine sediment) orange-red with tons of sparkle, 2-finger width foamy beige head with decent retention and trace lacing. Aroma is sweet and tart cherry, Belgian yeast, caramel apple, candied sugar. Taste is strong sweet cherry over tart, caramel, brown sugar, and candied fruit. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with frothy texture, pleasant esophageal alcohol warmth, average carbonation and dry, finish as taste. Overall, a nice, sweet beer for a winter holiday evening.

2007 bottle, tasted august 2008. Ruby red color. Cherry, marzipan, vinous and yeasty notes in the aroma. Hint of cherry wine in the flavor. Marzipan. Sweet but alcoholic. Yeast and vegetable notes. Just a little off balance

Pours cloudy brown with a bubbly creme head. Aroma of bread and spices. Taste includes malt, dark fruit and spice. Palate is extremely complex, cherries, dark earth notes, intense spice, apparent ABV and lemongrass are all noticeable. Incredible and intricately crafted, somewhat drinkable.
