Masterpiece was the name of one of the former dray horses at the museum. This beer was brewed with great success at the Museum brewery. Aromatic hops, toasted cereal notes and hints of smoke and spice enhanced by fragrant fruity character and a top note of fresh bread. A full luxurious mouth-feel combines with a subtle peppery character to create an exquisite finish.

Gravity cask at the GBBF Winter 2023 Festival, day 2 at Burton On Trent Town Hall, 17/02/23. Golden amber with a good sized off white head. Nose is orange peel, stewed fruits, biscuit, light breads, straw. Taste comprises bready malts, toasted grains, orange peel, caramel. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with mellow hopping. Okay.

Gravity Cask at CAMRA Winter Beer Festival 2023, Burton-upon-Trent. Clear golden color, few edge bubbles. Aroma of lightly smoky caramel. Taste is light caramel. Interesting.

[Cask at the Alehouse, Reading at 5.6%ABV.] A golden amber pour with a scant off-white head; malty aroma; thick and syrupy in the mouth with an earthy malt taste; and a dry earthy bitter finish with lingering traces of bitter orange and grapefruit.

Cask at Standing Order, Derby โ at 5.6%. Pours a hazy copper brown with a small cream head and good lacing. Thereโs a general fruity aroma to this one. In the mouth thereโs a balance between fruity hops and sweet malts, maybe a bit more on the hoppy side. It is quite bitter with oranges and caramel. Finish is bitter too. It seemed a bit all over the place, but that may be a reflection on the cellarmanship, so I guess it requires a rerate.

Cask @ The Brewery Tap, National Brewery Centre, Burton. Pours clear amber, aroma of malt, grain. Clean, sweet character overall, very interesting to taste fresh White Shield at the source. And, further to Jeremy's comment below, yes this is the original.

3rd May 2019; hand-pulled half-pint at the 46th Telford Drinks Festival at The Crown Inn, Oakengates. Best beer I had at the festival, some say it's the cask version of 'Worthington's White Shield' and it could well be. Good amber body, off-white head. Lovely blend of fruity hops and maltiness in both the aroma and taste. Very pleasant all round.

Cask @ Calans, Hebden Bridge. Reddish-copper with a very thin head. It's sweetish-strong with mild hops here too.

Clear, orange-red colored, small+ white head. Aroma is of some malt, fruity jam, biscuit, light herbal hops. Taste is medium sweet malt, biscuit, fruity esters, jam, some herbal hops, medium- bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Too much on the fruity yeasty side for me... (cask)
