Cask @ Bar Fringe, Manchester. Dark with a small red glow and a thin creamy off-white head. Has medium roasted malt aromas and taste, and a little soapy in its aftertaste.

Cask at the Lamplighter, St Helier. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is chocolate, salted caramel, roasted malt and liquorice. The taste is smooth roasted malt, bitter, toasty, chocolate, earth, pepper with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Well rounded and pretty drinkable. As good as I have had from Ringwood.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark brown with a bubbly off white head. The aroma is light roasted malt. The flavour is light bitter sweet with a light watery malt, over-ripe red berry fruit palate. Light bodied with soft carbonation. I was looking forward to this but was ultimately disappointed. Lacks flavour and way too light all round.

English porter with milky, off-white, thin and quickly opening foam and very dark burgundy colour, almost black, clear. Dense and powerfully malty aroma, toasted and smoky, raisins, candied dates, coffee, sweet tobacco, madera, charcoal, cloves, balsamic vinegar, chocolates, juniper berries, candi syrup. Soft fruity onset, rounded, subtly sweet, caramelly, pleasant lemon acidity, full maltiness with roasted bitter finish, creamy with the acidity coming back in the finish. I enjoyed this very much.

Cask at Kingsbridge Inn, Bourton on the Water, Glos. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium light beige head on top. Roasty, malty, dark fruit aroma. Tastes similar, roasty, malty, dark fruit, slight coffee. I wasn’t expecting too much from a Ringwood beer but this was highly drinkable.

Cask @ Pilgrims Progress, Bedford. Very dark brown with little head, but very lively natural carbonation. Aroma of burnt coffee with hints of coffee and coal. Bittersweet taste with a slightly sour edge. Dry finish. This is a decent porter. I’m not a natural Ringwood fan but credit where credit is due.

Updated 30/12/17 cask at the Cricketers, Ipswich. Had a more prominent blackcurrant aroma with nut, malt, and also quite prominent liquorice. Medium plus sweetness, medium bitterness. Better than last rating of 5/4/5/3/10 16/2/13 Cask from the tap room at The Dove, Ipswich. Dark ruby colour, with a brown bubbly head. Slightly sour, berry aroma, very dry. A fruity flavour came through that was a little difficult to decipher - blackcurrant, raspberry perhaps? Rather an unusual beer, not unpleasantly so, but don’t think I could have had more than a pint.

Cask @ Thomas Rigby’s Liverpool 030113
Chestnut brown, clear, creamy white head, good lacing
Aroma of dark caramel malts, fruity dark malts, soft raisin, slight unusual yeast ester, touch of burnt toast
Taste of fruity dark malts, some sweet fruity malts, touch of leaves, bit of treacle, hint of liquorice, hedgerow fruity hops and twig hops in background
Palate - medium body, sticky, quite creamy rich palate. Finish as main flavour, smooth, slightly metallic note in the linger
Overall - Unusual porter, wasn’t entirely sure about the flavour, fruity sweet dark malt with hedgerow hop fruitiness, but it is pretty decent

Very dark with a creamy head. Flavour of dark malts. Has a smooth creamy feel. Quite low bitterness for a porter.
