Cask at the Wharf. Black colour with a beige head. Flavour is butterscotsch, coffee, fruit, peach, roasted malt, hop, hay. Ordinary beer.

Ringwood xxxx porter Cask at The Wharf. It pours a black body and a small, coarse, dark beige head. The aroma is quite buttery, with roasted malts and lots of raisins. The flavor is quite acidic, with raisins, blackcurrant and roasted malts. Medium to thin on the palate, smooth. Roasted finish with lots of raisins. Probably not in good nick this one. Not bad but it feels a bit old. 110320

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Pours a dark, ruby-brown with a slight film. Aroma holds vanilla, light mocha and roast. Interesting flavor, hard to nail down. Has some brown sugar and maple syrup sweetness. Only faint roast but some hints of fruit. Light to medium bodied with soft, basically flat carbonation. A touch more roast and some ashy bitters in the finish with a bit more dark sugar. So so.

From cask at Charlies. Aroma is roasted and dark breadish. Slight liqourice toffee malty. Lingering roasted and dark liqourice lasting flavoured. Bitter and nice roasted malty finish. Dark malty lasting impression.

Cask at the Bulls Head, London Road, Manchester. Black pour with a beige head. Smoke, malts, chocolate and raisin aromas. Chocolate, vanilla and raisin flavours. Smooth.

[1st Rate, 20/1/2010, Cask at the Monks Retreat, Reading. RB7/3/7/4/16] Deep brown with a good off-white head. Tiniest hint of carbonation, but mouthfeel is beautifully smooth and creamy. Tastes of milk chocolate, pleasantly dotted with fruits (blackberries?) and sprinkled with crisp Autumn leaves, with just a hint of dusty bitterness to balance it all off. Very easy to drink, and incredibly satisfying. An excellent, well-balanced beer - I could have happily drunk a few of these if I hadn’t have had to go back to work! [2nd Rate, 15/12/2017, cask at the Back of Beyond, Reading. RB7/3/6/3/13] Brown with a cream head. Rather fake chocolate, some roasty notes and a bit too dusty in the finish. Not nearly as good as I remember. [Overall rating is the average of all rates.

Cask handpull at The Plough, Byfleet. Very deep ruby colour, lasting dark beige head. Some choc on aroma, some dark fruits, black cherry, dark plum. Some fullness. Really very good condition, some lasting fruit sweetness. It’s even a little whisky like in the malts.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. Blackish brown with a dense tan head; malty aroma; smokey roasted malt flavours with some milk chocolate; sweet milky finish, with an underlying earthy bitterness. Well balanced.

Cask (Waterloo Arms, Southampton) - Dark brown with some red tinges. Roasted and malty aroma. The taste is also roasted and malty with some chocolate and coffee hints.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms JDW, Bristol 28/12/08. Dark brown with reddish undertones and a frothy tan head that left plenty of lacing down the glass. Aroma of caramel and roasted malts. Flavour had some milk chocolate, berry fruits with hints of earthy hops and a short bitter finish. Drinkable.
