Sue is the wine barrel-aged version of Susan (1891-1975), our grandfather's sister and the namesake of our bright, citrusy Farmstead® IPA. Aged for nearly two years, it has developed and evolved into its current manifestation: a complex, lightly tart and delicately hopped Farmstead® ale.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy opaque golden with a large white head. Nose is exquisite, with remarkably complex white wine barrels, wonderful bretty funk, and residual citrus hops - what an aroma. Flavour is equally remarkable, with an amazing balance of funky brett, oaky white wine barrels, and citrus hops. The blend is impeccable. The residual hops from the base IPA are strong enough to add another dimension of complexity. Once again, Hill Farmstead delivers another phenomenal saison, this being of their best in my books.

Bottle thanks to Gibson. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy white head. The aroma is strong wine, funk, oak. Medium mouth with nice funk, strong grape from wine barrel and brett, very nice.

Bottle - Lemon and tropical fruit with some funk. Cloudy gold with a decent beige head. Tart and a bit funky, but without any real flavor or complexity. Smells much better than it tastes.

2014 Vintage, 750ML allowed to be upright for 3 days in the fridge and enjoyed split 2 ways with my friend who grabbed it.

A - It looks very similar to Susan in that it’s a minor hazy deep orange 2 finger creamy head that fades slowly to a minor bit of lacing.

S - Smells similar to E. but has more juiciness, clementine and orange peel and grapefruit. Brett and sourdough bread a nice clean nose with juice for days.

T - This is really impressive. Basically, Susan is my favorite non-DIPA from Hill Farmstead. I love how juicy and well layered it is and I would drink it daily unless Abner was available then DUH. just think...Susan with a lot of juicy bitterness still left over even after a year with a lot of Brett C & Brett B, doughy sourdough, crackers, funk with juicy tones. Was this dry hopped after the year in oak? It ’s so good.

M - Bit mouthfeel from bottle conditioning. candy sweetness stays around for a while. It’s delicious

O - This is fantastic. I don’t want to wait and hold on to my bottles. It’s so good right now that I can’t imagine it getting any better. Fantastic!!!!!!! I love Hill Farmstead beers but this is a freaking winner like beyond the average 4.0 rating I give most HFS beers. I need more of this in my life. Amazing.
