Altbier, literally translated as “Old Style” beer, is a classic German ale. BBC Altbier is brewed with additions of Munich, wheat, caramel, and chocolate malts creating a delicate, but flavorful malt profile. This delicious amber colored session beer is balanced with additions of tradtional spicy German hops creating a light and floral bouquet to compliment its complex malt profile. Draft. Hazy, amber body. Frothy, white head, mostly diminishing. Moderate aroma of biscuit, toasted grain, nuts, caramel. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter and lightly acidic. Light to medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Lingering bitterness. Pretty straightforward, and average, amber ale.

12 ounce bottle from Vintage Cellar. Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Nutty and grainy aroma with a light tart note. Taste is pretty much the same with a bit of caramel and leafy hops as well. Thin bodied.

This beer came in my beer club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark orange-amber color with a large orange-white head. The aroma was sour, tangy and vegetal. The flavor was sour, tangy, malty and lightly vegetal with a touch of a fruity undertone. The finish was long and sour. Eh.

bottle - Pours amber with a one finger lingering head that laces nicely. The aroma is caramel malt and maybe a touch of spice. It tastes sweet and malty with some mild hops in the background. It’s another pretty average craft beer.

My thanks to Kevin for this beer. This is good. Aroma has nuts, caramel, and toast. Light amber color, though the roasted character in the flavor makes this more of an alt than a amber ale. Very light hops, and lots of roasted, dry grain. Dry finish.

Bottle. Strong malt aroma with maple syrup notes. Lightly hazy amber color with moderate head. Sweet, metallic malt flavor. Mild hops and strong metallic aftertaste. Tastes okay but metallic taste not pleasant. /Re-rate on Draft - Hay and toffee malt aroma - hint of cherry. Amber with small head. Sweet toffee malt and lightly bitter hay flavor. Much more pleasant.

Pours with a clear copper body, lighter than any other altbier I’ve tried. Aroma is crackery and grassy. Flavor is dense but not very distinctive, with earthy/grassy hops mingling with caramely malt. Rather sweet, tangy malt finish. Not as much emphasis on toasty or burnt brown sugar flavors as the other altbiers I’ve sampled. Not subtle either.
