16 ounce crowler into tulip glass, filled on 6/9/2019. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a small fairly dense tan head with solid retention, that reduces to a minimal spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, maple syrup, vanilla, cream, caramel, brown sugar, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, biscuit, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, oak char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, maple, cinnamon, vanilla, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, maple syrup, vanilla, cream, caramel, brown sugar, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, biscuit, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of licorice, molasses, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, oak char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, roast, char bitterness; and cinnamon, bourbon, oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, maple syrup, vanilla, cream, caramel, brown sugar, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, biscuit, dark/brown bread, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, oak char, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, maple, cinnamon, vanilla, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a nice roast/hop bitter/sweet, and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol or barrel booze for 6.3%. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged spiced American porter. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, maple, cinnamon, vanilla, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/tannic/drying finish; great soft feel. Awesome balanced rich malts, maple, cinnamon, vanilla, and bourbon barrel presence/integration; with mild earthy hops, restrained fruity yeast. Lightly sweet with lingering dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and impressive style example. Very minimal tart yeast note was there.
