X4 has been aged longer than any release we've done, over 2 years in bourbon barrels. This blend of three different beers has a touch of roastiness with notes of pecans, bourbon and vanilla. It's thick and sticky and drinks almost like a port wine!

16 ounce prowler into tulip glass; filled on 4/7/2019. Pours hazy nearly opaque dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with solid retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, roasted nuts, raisin, plum, prune, cherry, fig, date, apricot, red apple, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with light notes of molasses, chocolate, cocoa, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malts, fruity yeast, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, roasted nuts, raisin, plum, prune, cherry, fig, date, apricot, red apple, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with light notes of molasses, chocolate, cocoa, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, roasted bitterness; and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, roasted nuts, dark fruit, toasted biscuit, brown bread/crust, molasses, chocolate, cocoa, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, fruity yeast, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying sweetness after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is great. Mild increasing warmth of 8.5%, with minimal lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged English strong ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, fruity yeast, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the ABV, with the mildly bitter/tannic/drying finish. Great soft feel, and not overly booze/tannic on barrels. Fantastic balance between rich malts, fruity English yeast, and bourbon barrel presence/integration. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and impressive style example as expected.
