Ever met a crushable Double IPA? Now you have. We took our Renny “session” DIPA, added grapefruit, and turned it up to 11. The addition of grapefruit pairs perfectly with the citrus aroma and flavors that come from the use of Amarillo and Simcoe hops. Warning: It’s way too drinkable.

12 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge juicy ruby red grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light honey, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/fruity hops, grapefruit juice, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge juicy ruby red grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light honey, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of juicy ruby red grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, berry, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, light honey, bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/fruity hops, grapefruit juice, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 9.4% after the finish. Overall this is an awesome fruited DIPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/fruity hops, grapefruit juice, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV; with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Super vibrant, juicy, and lightly dank on hops/fruit; balancing malt backbone, but never sweet/heavy feeling. Very similar to the base beer on hop complexity, but has enormous amounts of authentic grapefruit juiciness added to it. A really enjoyable offering.
