It’s a little-known fact that Snoopy and the Red Baron shared a pint of Cirrus Wheat when they famously halted hostilities on Christmas Eve. Top-fermenting with the light, naturally cloudy appearance of German weizen, or “wheat-based” ale, Cirrus Wheat’s character appeals to most everyone. Merry drinking, my friend!

12 ounce bottle into weizen glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of grapefruit, orange zest, banana, clove, peppercorn, light bubblegum, wheat, cracker, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus hops, and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, banana, clove, peppercorn, light bubblegum, wheat, cracker, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate yeast spiciness and floral/grassy hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange zest, banana, clove, peppercorn, wheat, cracker, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus hops, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance; and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Light dryness from bitter/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very nice Hefeweizen. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus hops, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink. This was certainly hoppier than the traditional style, but not too far out of line. A very enjoyable offering.
