On tap at Hopcat A2. Pours black with a grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet and earthy dark grains with a bit of roasted malts and bourbon supporting. Flavor is similar with lots of sweet dark grains and bourbon with light roast and earthiness underlying.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but was just released this month. Listed at 8.5% on the bottle. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, oak, light dark fruit/herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and moderate bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, oak, light dark fruit/herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark bread, molasses, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and moderate bourbon barrel flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with minimal yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial Schwarzbier style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and moderate bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
