Brewed with pale, caramel, roasted and chocolate malts, this Mother Shucker is hopped up with Willamette and balanced out with the sweet and full flavor of oats. Fresh Louisiana oysters are added to the brew in the final stages, infusing a slight taste of sea salt that offsets the sharpness of the stout.

Bomber from Wine & Cheese. Pours dark coppery brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma of roasted/toasted malts with chocolate notes. Med body or so. Flavor is not at all bitter, mostly different roast/toast/chocolate malt aspects. It’s a bit strange, maybe that’s salt and oyster debris. Has some nuttiness? It’s drinkable, but not really to my taste. Finishes kind of earthy.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, best before 3/1/2016. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass; with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, light sea salt/brine, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop/salty oyster notes; with great strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, light sea salt/brine, and herbal/roasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted oats, dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness, complexity, and balance of roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop/salty oyster flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate roasted dryness after the finish as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky/saline mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very nice American stout style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and light-moderate herbal hop/salty oyster flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. The salty oyster flavors were subtle, but noticeable; and I really liked the base American stout a lot. A very enjoyable offering.

Bomber shared by obguthr at the 22nd Richmond Gathering. Dark brown, clear, large foamy tan, good retention. Aroma of chocolate, roast, a bit of brine. The taste is roasted malt, brine, chocolate, hints of mint. Medium bodied, well balanced. Nice beer.
