Imperial Red IPA Aged in Bourbon Barrels
What do you get when a big, bold imperial red IPA meets an oak bourbon barrel? A palate stunner that’ll send your senses spinning or, as we like to call it, Dankwood. Rich caramel notes emerge from the depths of the IPA, highlighting strong malt character while the bourbon barrel-aging develops the complexity. A dank, sticky and slightly sweet sipper, Dankwood is the perfect alchemy of wood and hops.

12 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out lots of earthy hops, bourbon barrels, and some sticky resins. Flavour is sticky, with caramel malts, plenty of bourbon barrels, and somewhat subdued resinous hops. It's always odd barrel aging IPAs, but this one works pretty well.

Bottle @ home. Nice dark red color, medium sized off-white head. Aroma is malts, hops, heavy resinous and piney. Taste malts, hops, heavy resinous and piney again, some bourbon influence indeed, mostly bitter though. In some ways bit over the top imo, but still quite nice. Heavy though!

A nice sweet caramel malt with loads of resinous floral hops, light treacle, light vinous character, light bourbon barrel notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with vinous character, bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, light vanilla, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. On tap at Bar Lupulus.

355ml bottle. Pours a hazy red-brown with a large, creamy, long lasting, beige head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of bready caramel malt, toffee, dried fruit, oak, vanilla and piney hops. Sweet flavour of bready caramel malt, toffee, biscuit, dried fruit, grapefruit rind, oak, vanilla and piney hops with a dry, bourbon warming finish. Medium to full body with a smooth, oily texture and soft carbonation. Very nice, resembles a Barley Wine. The high ABV is well integrated.

Bottle. Amber pour. Aroma of caramelised malt, bourbon vanilla, fudge, pine, grapefruit and oak. Taste of bitter pine, caramel fudge, bourbon vanilla, oak, grapefruit, figs and a finish with both bitter hop and sweet bourbon. Special and tasty.
