Tap@Skaal, Copenhagen - Dark Amber coloured pour with a white head. Sweet malty with some prominent caramel notes, some treacle, some dark fruit, some bourbon infused wooden notes singing through, solid hoppy support, medium to full bodied, warming malty finish. Lovely.

Draft. A hazy dark amber beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of wood, alcohol, caramel, citrus fruits and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of bourbon, wood, caramel, alcohol, citrus fruits, and hops, leading to a bitter finish.

Clearish, amber-red colored, medium frothy off white head, decent lasting. Aroma is sweet and malty, caramel, toffee, biscuit, dried fruits, oaky wood, vanilla, moderate citrus and pine hops, alcohol. Taste is quite sweet, malty and caramel, biscuit, dried fruits, some woody oaky notes, moderate citrusy and pinehops and bitterness, dryish finish, alcohol is too evident, warmth in the finish. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, sticky. Wood, sweet caramel and bourbon oak... all fine as long as you ignore the IPA on the laber but it's also way too boozy. (bottle)

Draft glass @ Billie’s Bier Kafétaria. Dark red amber, creamy tanned head. Nose is massive thick dark bread caramel, agave, pine resin, sticky sweet bourbon smothered,..; Awesome thick syrup de Liège, pine resin, syrup, sweet bourbon massively thick caramel, almost cheese, caramel, candied apple sludge, awesome sticky sweet,.. Love this basically hoppy BA Barleywine.

Dark colour, red mahogany, with thick creamy head. Aroma of caramel and old wood, light fruit presence, mild spicy tobacco. Full bodied, moderately sweet, with evident alcohol kick; caramel base, with some caramelized banana, liquor, touch of roasted nuts, old wood again, quite spicy and piquant. Strong bitterness level, with masked hop resins.
Imperial IPA doesn't come to mind when thinking about the style, but it's a bold and very good beer; not too complicated.

amber/licht bruin met lichte kraag. aroma van enorm veel graan, typisch Amerikaans dit, hop. Smaken zijn ook enorm granig, matig tot redelijk bitter, hoppig, gras, alcoholisch, zeer lichte bourbon, wat vanille, hout, té alcoholisch en té weinig bourbon en té granig, over the top.

This reminds me of some old school IPAs, just a lot bigger. OK a lot bigger. I'm thinking of Ballantine IPA (the wood aged one) and the Woodstock IPA especially. is it me or is that beer no longer in the database? What happened to it? Anyway, this is lightly dank, deep grapefruit rind, but heavy malted, with dark caramel, raisins, burnt sugar, molasses, strong resin and grapefruit rind flavors, with a fairly bitter finish. Not much alcohol burn, but you can tell its there. Pretty heavy palate.

355ml bottle. Pours dark reddish brown with a small head. Aroma of malts, grassy hops, pine, resin, oak wood, toffee, and bourbon. Taste is sweet, malty and bourbony with some oak, toffee, wood, caramel, pine and resin. Finish is sweet, malty and caramely with some bourbon, oak, pine, grassy hops and hints of rye bread. Quite nicely balanced, sweetish and hoppy barley wine with nice bourbony notes.

On tap at the beer temple. Aroma is heavy on pine, resin and malt. Dry, mouthfeel, big body. Flavours are intense, a big malt body with some caramel is met by a huge array of hops and bitterness. The bourbon makes it heavy and sweeter, with some vanilla. Finish is very dry and bittersweet. Lovely.
