Imperial Red IPA Aged in Bourbon Barrels
What do you get when a big, bold imperial red IPA meets an oak bourbon barrel? A palate stunner that’ll send your senses spinning or, as we like to call it, Dankwood. Rich caramel notes emerge from the depths of the IPA, highlighting strong malt character while the bourbon barrel-aging develops the complexity. A dank, sticky and slightly sweet sipper, Dankwood is the perfect alchemy of wood and hops.

Sampled from tap at Van Moll Fest 2018. Almost clear, deep amber with an off-white head. Sweetish-malty, fairly resiny and slightly fruity aroma of caramel, lots of pine, bourbon and some mango. Fairly sweet, malty, very resiny and gently fruity taste of caramel, pine, bourbon, some mango and hints of wood, followed by a medium long, gently bitter, very resiny finish. Medium to full body, creamy to oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very tasty!

From the bottle. Auburn with a sticky, frothy off white head that lingers. Aroma is oak, oak and bourbon. Taste is bitter, full of oak. Caramel an bourbon round out the finish. A hint of cherry lingers afterwards on the tongue. Body is heavy, carbonation mild to moderate. Overall, very boozy and it’s hard to pick out the beer underneath all the oak and bourbon. Feels at times more like a wee heavy than an imperial IPA.

12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark mahogany with moderate head. Aromas of rich syrupy sugar, dry oak, light bourbon, and sweet bready malts. Flavors follow same though more bitter and dry; and leaning towards bourbon and dusty brown sugar. Very good.

Smaksprøve fra fat på SKAAL, aug-18: klar, dyp gyllen med fint skum. Saftig, dyp, kompleks og varmende. En perfekt nightcap, skal prøves igjen og da ikke på formiddagen!
