Bomber from the brewery. Brett E. couldn’t be bothered to make it to the tasting last night so he doesn’t get to try this beer which promises to be wonderful. Black, thin foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of strong coffee, strong roast, vanilla, whiskey. The taste is roasted malt, coffee, vanilla. Hints of whiskey. Medium bodied, mild booze, light on the barrel (a positive in my book). Nice beer.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours pitch black with a medium khaki head that diminishes gradually to a dense film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, malt and coffee. Light to medium body with flavors of bourbon, malt and coffee. The finish is roasty with an oaky bourbon and malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/25/2014. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, toast, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, oak, light char, and roast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel notes; with good strength. Taste of dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, toast, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, oak, light char, and roast/oak earthiness. Fair amount of coffee/spicy oak bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, toast, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, oak, and roast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a good roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with a slight warming bourbon presence after the finish. Overall this is an excellent BA coffee stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to drink with the lower ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
