On tap at beer junction west Seattle. Pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is roast malts chocolate coffee vanilla licorice and some ashtray notes.Taste is more of the roast malts chocolate coffee and some bitterness on the end.

16 oz draft at Black Jack in a standard pint glass. Black with light tan head. Aromas of roast, dark chocolate, licorice, slight vanilla. Tastes of dark chocolate, a bit of licorice and dark fruit, light roast. Medium body with a dry finish.

Pint pour at Drafting Table in DC. Poured a dark brown color, dark cola maybe, with a small off-white head. Aroma was lots of bitter chocolate, roast notes, mild earthy hops. Flavor was mild coffee notes. Creamy, milk chocolate in there. Pretty tasty.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours black with a half finger of tan head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate, a little vanilla. Taste is light bitter. Coffee and chocolate. Light bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long finish. Somewhat on the thin/watery side for a porter, but very drinkable.

Well this is a nice dry porter. A could whack of chocolate and coffee notes, dry robust finish, balanced, easy drinking, soft carbonation. Really very drinkable, clean. Jumps right into the conversation of best porters in the US.

Single bottle from Tader Joe’s. Smell of toasted campfire marshmallow right under the cap. Pours blackish brown, with a big foamy tan head. Taste is, well, kind of harsh. Roasty malts add to the hop biitterness. Yes, lots of coffee and chocolate roast to the malt, but not enough sweetness to make this sessionable. I just seem to have trouble with NB’s basic beers.

Bottle. A- Roasty, nutty, bitter chocolate. A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head. T- Roasty, malty, nutty, cocoa, dry. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, roasty finish. O- Tons of roastiness and nutty. Coffee was pretty non-existent and cocoa was a dry bakers like chocolate. Paired pretty well with a pepper crusted steak and bleu cheese. Really middle of the road.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s in a mixer sixer. Deep brown appearance with a nice, long lasting brown head. Roast, light char, hint of smoke, dark chocolate, and bit of nuts in the aroma. Slightly creamy mouth feel. Moderate low sweetness. Moderate bitterness. Quite roasty flavor. Lots of burnt notes / burnt sugar, dark chocolate, vanilla, and marshmallow. Solid brew.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 5/17/2015. Pours crystal clear nearly opaque dark brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, herbal, light pine and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roast/bready malts and earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light char/smoke, herbal, light pine, and roasted earthiness. Good amount herbal hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, and herbal/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice robustness and complexity of roast/bready malt and earthy hop flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy, and fairly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent porter. All around great robustness, complexity, and balance of roast/bready malt and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
