22 oz bottle (2015) poured into a nonic pint glass. Dark brownish black with a finger of light tan head. Aromas of pumpkin, roasty notes, caramel. Tastes of pumpkin, spices, roasty notes, brown sugar, light booze. Medium-full body with a dry finish. Solid imperial pumpkin stout. Nice surprise from Harpoon.

After checking out the ABV, I opted on the tulip for this one.
The appearance was a black color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated fairly quickly. Lacing was barely there.
The smell starts off with some ginger, light allspice, subtle pumpkin, light breadiness and a tad of raisin.
The taste was mainly sweet with an ample sweet to spicy (ginger to all-spice-esque feel). The aftertaste is somewhat pumpkin-esque leading into a sweet to subtle sticky sort of nice pumpkin-esque finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body, as there’s a good sipping quality about this one. Carbonation feels good for a pumpkin ale (imperial, eh, okay, I get it), sure, no difference for anyone that knows anything about pumpkin ales.
Overall, I went into this with low expectations and came out with WTF was this? Uh...way better than I’d thought it would be. Haha, yeah, I would have this one again, definitely.

2014 Bomber from State Line. Dark brown, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of pumpkin, vanilla, roasted malt. The taste is pumpkin, vanilla, roasted malts, dark fruits. Medium bodied, high carbonation, mild booze, moderate lingering bitterness. Solid.

From the bottle. Pours dark cola aroma of spice and hint of pumpkin. A smooth mouth feel with heavy clove taste and aftertaste. Meh!

2014 Vintage. Dark brown to black with some amber hues 1 finger espresso head. Smells like every other pumpkin beer..lots of yams, spice and brown sugar. This has a ton of spice. like eating pumpkin spice…straight up! it’s intensely spicy. totally overshadows the pumpkin. “drink your medicine!” LOL

Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black-brown color with a medium sized foamy dark tan head. The aroma was spicy cinnamon, nutmeg, bread, molasses and almost fruitcake. The flavor was sweetish bread, fruitcake, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and molasses. Long spicy finish with lingering ginger, cinnamon and molasses. Moderately full bodied and creamy. Interesting.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 7/18/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, pumpkin, cinnamon, clove, ginger, nutmeg, toast, molasses, brown bread, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted/dark malt, pumpkin, and spice notes; with good strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, pumpkin, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, molasses, toast, ginger, brown bread, and toasted earthiness. Lingering notes of chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, pumpkin, cinnamon, toast, clove, nutmeg, brown sugar, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of roasted malt, pumpkin, and spice flavors; with great robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and moderately slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent imperial pumpkin stout. All around great balance and complexity of stout and pumpkin ale flavors; and very smooth to sip on for 10.5%. A very enjoyable offering.
