Captain Fantasy is a Pear Saison with profuse hoppiness. Light-bodied with a bright, clear, golden color, this Saison is brewed with pear to complement the aromas of spice and the fruity fragrance of Sorachi Ace hops. Captain Fantasy has flavors of sweet pear and tart lemon, and a lively amount of carbonation to cleanse the palate. The overall fruitiness of Captain Fantasy is interrupted by an assertive hop bitterness that dominates the finish.

Bottle 35,5 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours an almost clear yellow with a white head. Lovely sweet spicy hop aroma - I bet Sorachi Ace! Medium body, sweet and fruity with a slight tartness and then a salty edge. Again these nice Sorachi Ace notes. No real bitterness. Lovely. 150812

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled 8/2/2011. Pours very hazy golden straw color with a very nice 2 finger dense white head with great retention that reduces to a thin cap that lasts. Some very nice soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas of big pear, apricot, herbal, grape, orange peel, lemon zest, grass, pepper, yeast spices, and light funk. Nice, complex, and balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of pear, apricot, orange peel, lemon zest, pepper, herbal, grass, and yeast spices. Light tartness on the finish, with lingering notes of citrus zest, pear, pepper, and yeast spices on the finish for a bit. Great malt and spice flavor balance, with the malt being stronger. No cloying sweetness at all. Medium carbonation and body; with a slightly slick and crisp mouthfeel. Very easy to drink; with hardly any alcohol warming after the finish. Overall this is a great saison. Nice fruity flavor and balance; and very easy to drink.

Bottle. Hazy straw-orange body with sediment, thick puffy, clumping off-white head. Hoppy nose, catty and vegetal with pear and peppery spices. Bitter, estery body with lemon and peppery, catty, herbal, almost woody hops. Dry, bitter finish with a citrus kiss and notes of pineapple. Creamy body with soft, dense carbonation. Not quite my bag but it’s interesting.

Bottle thank to SS. Pours with a very hazy yellow to golden body with a large and lasting white head with good retention and lace. Aromas are very estery and fruity, juicy, pear. Light phenol, pepper, floral, honey and herbaceous. Hops are herbaceous, woodsy, herbal. The hops have their own richness which is very interesting. Flavors are hoppy, grassy, peppery, spicy and a bit tart. Fruity esters, light outer essence of pear, some pepper and a nice saison yeast profile. Very lively bubbles, dry with an odd fruitiness throughout the duration.

Thanks to Sean for the hook up on this one! Pours a near clear gold with a slight orange hue and a white head that remained throughout the beer. Aroma has a good amount of pine hops with a bit of backing grapefruit, light fruits, flora and a hint of saison yeast. Flavor was similar with a good amount of grapefruit and pine throughout backed by some sweet grains, light fruit and a hint of saison yeast. Seems more like an IPA but enjoyable none the less.

12 oz bottle from Short’s. Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has a strong herbal hoppiness, lots of yeasty clove and bubble gum. In the flavor, that strong herbal hoppy note that I can’t quite identify as anything familiar is definitely there. The pear flavor blends surprisingly well into the beer, and the yeasty clove matches well with the herbal, floral, earthy hops. Short’s and Half Acre have come up with a wonderful saison recipe here, and it’s well-executed.

Sampled on draft at GTMW 2011. Pours a hazy orange color with a large creamy offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of huge pepper notes, herbal hops. Fairly one note. The taste is pear, peppery hops, citrus and caramel. Medium bodied.
