Imperial Malt Liquor Aged in Bourbon Barrels

Too Classy for a Paper Bag. Here you have what could be the first malt liquor worthy of a glass. Typically a slighted style, we thought we would class it up with a stay in the wood and a healthy dose of dry-hopping. A huge hit of corn gives this one a smooth sweetness while its time spent aging in bourbon barrels will give you reason to share. Be warned: this one will kick you where you most expect it.

Bottle. Clear amber color with white head. Aroma is piney resinous hops and bourbon barrel: vanilla, caramel. Taste is bourbon barrel, corn, more piney hops, boozy finish, sirupy. Smooth oily mouthfeel with low to medium carbonation. Well made!

Off white frothy head stayed on a hazy, finely carbonated, light copper coloured body. Huge aroma of malt, sugar, over ripe fruit & banana. Full bodied, thick, syrupy, chewy & cloying on the palate. with minimal carbonation. Over ripe fruit, under ripe fruit, loads of sugar, malt, caramel, syrup & honey tastes.

Bottle @ home, thanks to cousin Brad for bringing this to Colorado. Murky dull, dark orange appearance with a lasting cream colored head. Aroma has orange creamsicle and caramel and toffee. Oh boy, this is high boost. Surprisingly not overly goopy or cloying. The flavor isn’t super enjoyable. Not a true malt liquor, let’s be honest.

Bottle at home the only non-new brewery in my mix six but had to be done for Top 50 style tick. Deep gold. Nose is vanilla and malt. Tastes of bourbon, vanilla, wood, malty, light fruit, corn. Touch sweet and boozy. Slightly cloying.

Draft. A- Everclear, cleaner. A- Copper color, clear liquid, white head. T- Cleaner, harsh, booze. P- Full body, sharp texture, average carbonation, harsh finish. O- Wow. This was bad. I couldn't even get through a 4 oz pour and I was pretty intoxicated when I ordered it. That said, for a malt liquor it's better than most but I would never want any more of this. Like cheap ass grain alcohol.

Bottle from Beautiful Beers, online order. Golden brown, clear with a thin layer of off-white head. Toast with golden syrup in the aroma, along with rye whiskey, caramel, apple butter, sultanas, and booze, booze, booze. Taste is boozy as well: sweet at first with a harsh astringency in the finish. Sweetish whiskey notes and toffee in the aftertaste. A boozy mess, but that's kind of the point. Most likely the pinnacle of the style.

On draught at WOB Easton. Clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Small patches of lace. Aroma of bourbon, caramel and fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of bourbon, vanilla, caramel malt and fruit. The finish is sweet and boozy with a bourbon aftertaste. Decent overall.
