On Tap Black with a persistent light tan head Sweet adrk pitted fruit roasty aroma. Slick smooth almost oily feel. More prunes, licorice and sweet campfire. Rich smooth stout that just tastes like its been aging niceley.

Bottle from Tanakaya under the name Rasputin. Pours a deep black with a small beige head that dissipates fairly quickly. Dark berry nose with some cacao, roasted malt, soy sauce and light booze aromas. Sweet on the palate with some light roasted notes. 33 cl bottle poured in to a Snifter. As De Molen Rasputin, late 2014 vintage. Pitch black with a dense, creamy tanned head. Sweet, roasted aroma with dark malts, chocolate, coffee and caramel malts. Light floral and earthy hops. Taste is sweet and roasted. Full body with an oily texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes slightly dry and roasted with rich, dark malts and cocoa powder. Nice Imp. Stout to the sweeter side.

Tap at Erzbierschof Zurich. Very nice chocolate aroma, some coffee too. Judging from the nose, probably not too sweet. Unexpected taste, more umami and boozy than something refined. Unusual for sure.

Bottle. 16 months old, so still labelled as Rasputin. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Pours clear, dark brown until lots of lumps of sediment dropped in without warning. Slimmest of tan head. Lots of legs. Nose has tar. Charred wood. Vine fruits. Dried fruit. Heaps of dark chocolate behind all of that. Taste is rich, sticky sweet, then big, tangy bitter hop. Full body. Very sticky. Finishes burnt wood, tangy bitter. All over the shop. Hard work.

Poured from a 330ml bottle dated 12/04/14. Aroma is fairly malt forward with quite a bit of dark chocolate and roast. Lighter tobacco and leather notes. Moderate dark fruit character with prune, plum and berry. Light alcohol spice. Pours black with a medium sized, moderately thick, light mocha head that steadily recedes to the edges where it lingers. No lacing and moderately long legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with quite a bit of chocolate and dark fruit upfront. Fruit is plums, prunes, raisins and cherry. Some moderate roast notes with a bit of caramel and toffee. Medium light leather and ash with a light alcohol spice. Medium bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low, but slightly present astringency and low to medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice stout and one that will age well, but drinking this really highlights for me how the imperial stout style has changed to be big, chewy, sweet, chocolate with some roast and little esters. Compared to today’s hyped stouts this isn’t thick enough and there are way too many fruit esters and dark roast characteristics. I like the thinner mouthfeel, but am not a huge fan of the way the esters play with the ash and leather notes.
