Bourbon Barrel-Aged Chocolate Coffee Stout

KBS gets its coffee fix in the very first variant to come from our beloved bourbon barrel-aged stout. Yes, KBS may already be brewed with coffee, but it gets some extra oomph when it’s aged on espresso beans after being removed from barrels. The result is a fresh and snappy coffee twist on our classic barrel-aged beer. Who says you can’t start your day with a barrel-aged stout?

(Draft at Akkurat, Stockholm, 23 April 2025. Vintage 2018) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, dark bread and a touch of alcohol. Malty, roasted taste with black coffee, dark chocolate, dark bread and a generous coffee bitterness in a warming finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Rich and powerful. Fairly straigth-forward, with loads of black coffee. Great beer!

Bottle at home. Pours black with a beige head. Nose is sweet booze, molasses, dark chocolate and huge, somewhat acidic and earthy coffee. Taste is sweet booze and chocolate, light dark malts and obviously a huge coffee kick. Light bitterness, heavy but not overwhelming sweetness. Closes with bourbon and coffee notes, has a medium to full body and soft carbonation. Nothing we havent seen before, but pretty solid nevertheless.

(Five variant KBS vertical) Poured from 355mL bottle (bottled 10.21.20 - 12%). Very dark brown with small beige head. Coffee bean forward, mild chocolate, loses a bit of the body of original KBS, but still a solid base.

Dark brown. Not much head. Lots of espresso, somewhat green, but also big. Good body, nice sweetness, big roast, and this finishes with a chocolate, coffee note. Good.

Black with a short tan head. Aroma of coffee and ciggies. Flavour is full coffee, burnt malt, ash on a sweetish burnt finish.
