Bourbon Barrel-Aged Chocolate Coffee Stout

KBS gets its coffee fix in the very first variant to come from our beloved bourbon barrel-aged stout. Yes, KBS may already be brewed with coffee, but it gets some extra oomph when it’s aged on espresso beans after being removed from barrels. The result is a fresh and snappy coffee twist on our classic barrel-aged beer. Who says you can’t start your day with a barrel-aged stout?

355ml bottle [bottled 04.23.20]. Jet black colour with minimally late awakening, average, thick, dense, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, brown head. Roasty, chocolately, dark malty and sweet-ish, caramel malty aroma, notes of coffee, espresso, dark chocolate, dark cocoa, some toffee, caramel, mocha, a touch of tiramisu; woody, oaky overtones. Taste is relatively dry, roasty and slightly chocolately, dark malty, minimally caramel malty, notes of coffee, espresso, dark chocolate, dark cocoa, some toffee, chocolate cake, a touch of caramel, Bourbon, tiramisu, subtle sweetness; minimally warming, alcoholic and minimally oaky finish. Oily to viscous texture, smooth and soft, silky, minimally cloying palate, fine, soft, creamy carbonation. Very harmonious and homogeneous, balanced, coffee infused by nature, but perfectly integrated; almost a bit cautious and seemingly light considering double-digit abv - excellent!

Some stores still let you grind your coffee fresh. The aroma of this beer is that fresh ground smell. Its smooth rich and robust. Bitter coffee and bakers chocolate dominate this. I thought the original was my favorite, but the extra punch of flavor may bring this up a notch.
