Bourbon Barrel-Aged Chocolate Coffee Stout

KBS gets its coffee fix in the very first variant to come from our beloved bourbon barrel-aged stout. Yes, KBS may already be brewed with coffee, but it gets some extra oomph when it’s aged on espresso beans after being removed from barrels. The result is a fresh and snappy coffee twist on our classic barrel-aged beer. Who says you can’t start your day with a barrel-aged stout?

Bottle. Black with brown head. Massive coffee, roasted malts, vanilla, hazelnuts, mineral, earthy. Medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied, slightly dry. A bit thin, but very tasty!

Draught @ City Swiggers, 2020 edition. Opaque dark brown, almost inky, very small frothy chocolate head, low carbonation, mocha aroma, mildly bitter chocolate-mocha taste, alcohol aftertaste, smooth thin body, long chocolatey finish. The high abv has the consequence of leaving an alcohol taste in your mouth.

Bottle from Beer Hop. It pours jet black with a decent deep tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, bitter - sweet, plenty of chocolate, chocolate cake, nuttiness, praline, forrero rocher, kick of espresso coffee, vanilla fudge, bourbon soaked oak and chocolate covered coffee beans. The taste is slick, oily, thick, rich roasted malt, some bitterness, big kick of espresso coffee, plenty of chocolate, chocolate cake, toasted nut, forrero rocher, toasted spice, warming alcohol and bourbon soaked oak with a roasty finish. Fulsome body and average carbonation. Espresso works well in the mix. A flavourful beverage.

Bottle. Black pour with a foamy khaki colored head that has fair retention. The aroma is strong and bold with coffee, coffee grounds, sawdust and well roasted grains. The taste, like the aroma, features multilayered coffees, vanilla and oak. The palate is full and a bit oily. Finishes long and semisweet. Overall: decent brewski. Paired well with some roasted cashew nuts.

Jet brown with a rich brown head. Chocolate, barrel and dark espresso roast. Dark boozy espresso roast and a long chocolate finish. Nice bitterness to balance.
