An Englishman’s first love is his brown ale. However, in the summer he often fancies blondes instead! With this inspiration, we’ve created Newcastle Bombshell, an English style blonde ale. The combination of Cascade, Hellertau and Northdown hops balance this golden coloured ale’s light aroma and bitterness with toasted malt to ensure a silky smooth finish. After one sip of this brew, we’re sure you’ll agree she’s a real bombshell.

Review sample. Has that slightly sugary smell I get with a lot of blond ales, but this is also upfront with some earthy English hops. Look is just fine, a clear golden yellow ale with a stiff finger-width head. Taste is, luckily, drier than the usual blonde ale. English hops stay at the front, making this largely a lighter version of a session bitter. Nice carbonation helps deliver points of hop bitterness. Full taste for a slighter lighter beer.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a golden amber color with a small soapy white head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was tart lemon, Windex, perfume and was a bit skunky. The aroma was dry, tart and sour with notes of chalk, lemon pez, cracker and an astringency throughout. Medium length tart and sour lemon pez and lingering astringency. Light body. Pretty awful.

Clear Gold Color, Medium Frothy Head, Lots Of Thin Lacing. Grassy Aroma. Slightly Sweet, Light peppery hop bitter with sour finish. Light, slightly buttery. Simple style, therefore OK for what it is. Drinkable, Refreshing, just not interesting enough. Just OK for me. Pass it...

bottle - Pours clear gold with minimal head. It smells mainly of grainy malt. The flavor has mild, bland hops bitterness and sweet cereal malt. I suppose it’s refreshing but it’s watery and thoroughly mediocre.

Slightly sour, cereal taste to this beer. Aroma and taste of wet paper. Chalky, watery Mouthfeel. Much better golden blondes to be found in the UK

330ml bottle picked up at Nina’s Mini Market. Shared with Scottish friends. Clear golden body. Low white head. Fresh grassy hops to the nose. Smooth malt-fruity taste. Discreet fruit bitter ending. Medium to thin bodied. Average for the style (Edinburgh 09.08.2013).

Draft. Pours a dark gold with a finger of white head. Aroma of biscuit and a little dank hops. Taste is light bitter. A little grape skin and some herbal and citrus hops with a bit of biscuity malt. Light bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. A little light for my taste.

Bottle from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours brassy gold with a slight foamy white head. Aroma is lightly malty with a light hop mix. Med minus body. Flavor is a rather old malt with some citrus and grass - but the malt is roasty, and that’s somewhat interfering with the hop aspects. It’s drinkable, but not really working for me.

Location: Draft at Surf City, 6/8/13

Aroma: The nose has buttered bread, some stale malts, and not much else
Appearance: This one pours a golden color with a white head atop it
Flavor: The flavor is pretty much the buttery mess I expected from the nose
Palate: The body is light-medium, and it actually has a decent feel if you can get past the taste
Overall Impression: This was just a terrible beer. I found it to be a complete mess. I could barely get through a couple of sips. It seems like other have given this a better score, so perhaps we got it from a bad keg, because the one I had was just not good at all.
