This beer is called Heksen & trollen, that translates as Witches & Trolls. Why? We know why but we don't tell! The beer is a Saison, an old Belgian and northern France beer-style. At high temperatures fermented to make it very spicy and refreshing. Lots of citrus in the taste, but with a bitter finish. Light cloudy, blond. Formally known as White Witch

0.33 l bottle as "Heksen & Trollen" from De Bierkoning, 6.1% abv, bottled in July 2015. Clear, golden yellow with a large, foamy, almost stable, white head. Fruity-grassy aroma of lemon balm, peach, gooseberry and pineapple. Slightly sweetish, fruity-grassy taste of lemon, gooseberry and pineapple, followed by a medium bitter, grassy and minimally peppery finish. Thin to medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average to lively carbonation. Very aromatic but the taste does then not live up to the expectations. Still very refreshing but the smell promised more.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, golden colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Fruity and floral aroma with notes of citrus, orange blossoms and a whiff of resiny spice. Moderately bitter and mildly sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Dry malty base with a mildly wheat character, slightly citric, spicy and resiny hops, lingering into the dry and hop bitter finish with an elegantly balanced malty backbone. Good. 12.V.15

Bottle. Just hazy gold with a white head. Lovely (and very De Molen) citrus aroma - orange, lemon blossoms, lime leaf and grapefruit - white peaches, some spices, slight funk. The citrus flavours are not so vibrant in the taste, but still you wonder whether that’s where the sensation of sourness comes from. The peach comes across as peach bubblegum. Perhaps lacks a bit of welcoming sweetness and it’s a bit chalky, but the hops are very nice.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a deep gold with a huge soapy white head. Slightly funky aromas with some lemon zest, white grapefruit, hibiscus, grass and light spice. Taste is pretty similar with the sourness really standing out as it warms up...also some yogurt and a hint of soapiness as well. Finish is white grapefruit, lemon zest and light spice. --- Beer aliased from original tick of White Witch on 29 Sep 2016 at 19:29 - Score: 6. Original review text: Herbal and dry. Nice stuff.

Bottle as Heksen & Trollen. Thanks to Menno. Saison aroma. Pale gold hazy lasting white head. Orange tangerine flavour and a little spiciness. Frankly it’s lovely. Love the spice and the hop. And the satsuma tangerine flavours. Dry, fruity, hoppy saison. Really good.

0.33 bottle from Hoppiness, Koper, Slovenia. Hazy golden with a big but diminishing creamy off-white head. Hops, wood, spices. Fruity, malty and dusty. Wine-like, citrus acidity, wood-like flavours. Honey, herbs, candy and spices. Medium body. Bitter spicy finish. Nicely dry hopped saison, beautiful finish.
