Bottle, thanks Allen. Hiver 2008-09. Dry, minerally, somewhat sour grain-aroma (from the spelt I think. Jet black, brown layer. Flavor remains dry and salty, roast, burned orangepeel, catty hops. Chalky aftertaste. Medium to light body, mellow mouthfeel. I am not sure this bottle was in perfect condition anymore, warrants a re-rate next season.

The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Smoky-malty aroma. Starts quite dry, malty, a bit smoky. Finish with notes of liquoric, rusty-dry and modest sourish. Not very balanced but still enjoyable. Big thanks to Allen for the bottle!

Bottled Hiver 2007-08. Dark almost opaque black, small brown head. Coffeish, a bit sweet aroma. A bit sour, some hops, roasted malts. Coffee notes. Tartness in the aftertaste. Not maybe in the best shape and certainly the not best BFM (otherwise a good brewery).

Draft at Birreria Paradiso in DC. Opaque black color with a thick foamy head. The sourness comes through in the aroma. Smooth and roasty with a definite sour finish, this is quite nice. Mellow carbonation, the sourness is quite balancing and refreshing. Tart cherry black beer.

Swing top bottle from Allen, thanks! Hiver 08-09. Almost black. Maltaroma with cardemom and ash. Malty sweet roasty flavor with pear drups, ash, licorice and cardemom. Hint of tabacco. Very interesting, tasty brew.

This one reminds me of the flemish sour ales, like Rodenbach, but a bit stronger and not quite as sweet. Ruddy brown, smooth and balanced. OK.
