Brewed in collaboration with Devil's Peak.
Probably better known for its wine and wildlife, Cape Town has some inspired modern breweries with Devil’s Peak leading the charge. Gooseberry, lactose and fresh vanilla pods create a beer that is lightly sour with sweet notes from the vanilla, fruity tartness from the gooseberry, and hoppy notes from plentiful amounts of Citra hop. In the famous words of Toto, hurry boy, it’s waiting there for you

Can shared with Louie. It pours lightly hazy golden with a decent white head. The aroma is sweet - sour, tangy, gooseberry, musty, light vanilla, perfumed, toasted almond and granny smith apple. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, zingy, sour gooseberry, limey, kiwi, green apple, melon and sour candy with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Quite bright and zingy. Works a lot better than I expected (given the ingredients list).

From tap at the Hoppy Pub. Light unclear orange color with off white head. Yeasty and hoppy aroma, fruity, nectarine, berries - gooseberries indeed, light citrus, herbal, grassy. Sweet, light acidic and bitter taste. Light to medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Sample tray, draught at Fourpure Taproom. Stable white head, spotty lacing, cloudy golden body. Mid-tart and dry citrus on the nose. Gooseberries and orange fruity tartness to the taste character. Tart, dry and sweet to the ending. Above par for the style. (Shared with Finn, Bermondsey, London 29.09.2018).

Gooseberry, minerals and dextrose. Really tart aroma, but subtle sourness in taste. Great balance. Very good.

Decent foam though a little thin and foggy orange liquid with no visible carbonation. Huge sweet orange on the nose with hints of peach. Flavour is a dry apricot and lots of salt to temper the fruitiness. I'd prefer a little more subdued saltiness. Mouthfeel is okay and not too oily and also the abv is high for a gose but you don't notice it. Pretty good, could use some minor tweaks for my taste.

Keg at Fourpure, 02/08/18. Very light haze on a golden orange pour topped with a decent off white cap. Nose is tangy tropical fruits, straw, grass, weed, guava, light funk. Taste comprises lemon tinged straw, dankish tang, bitter orange, on the turn melon, damp straw. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light soured citric tang. Decent refresher.
