Created in 1968 to commemorate the renowned English writer, Thomas Hardy’s Ale is a limited edition barley wine. Numbered and vintage-dated to be stored for years (even over 25 years, according to those who have made it in the past); this legendary beer is finally back in production. A piece of English history we would like to share with you.

Hazy orange to amber colour, almost no head at all; aroma of dried plum soaked in cognac or brandy, dates, toffee, slight soy sauce and intensive alcohol; taste is basically the same; I like it!

0.33l bottle thanks to Lore. Slightly hazy orange body. Huge caramel notes both in the aroma and the taste with some dates, dark sugar, booze, wood, bourbon and orange zest. Sweet, boozy, amazing.

Bottle shared by PIlsnertest. Pale copper with a beige head. Caramel, figs, some boozy vanilla, overripe plums. Grainy and nutty. Good, but the 2006 and 2008 vintages we had just after were far superior.

Bottle 33 cl. Vintage 2016. Pours amber with a slight haze and a small, rough off-white head. Nose is super oxidized - as intended. Caramel, overripe fruit and booze. Super rich body, low in carbonation. Oxidized, woody, overripe fruit, slightly moldy even. Tastes sooooo old, but in a pleasant way. Warming alcohol finish. 070218
