Tap at Fakin. Shiny brown body, tan head, small. Cardamom, cocoa and chocolate dominate the sweetish aroma. Sweetish taste, chocolate, cinnamon, mild coffee, bit warming. Bitterish aftertaste. Simple but nice.

500 ml can into tulip glass, best before 9/4/2019. Pours hazy very dark ruby red/brown color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with amazing retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big nutty medium roast coffee, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, peppercorn, mint, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts, vanilla, cream, toasted biscuit, and brown bread; with light notes of licorice, dark fruit, smoke, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, spices, lactose, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big nutty medium roast coffee, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, peppercorn, mint, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts, vanilla, cream, toasted biscuit, and brown bread; with light notes of licorice, dark fruit, smoke, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, floral, grassy, roast bitterness; and cinnamon/cardamom spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of medium roast coffee, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, peppercorn, mint, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts, vanilla, cream, toasted biscuit, brown bread, light licorice/dark fruit/smoke, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, spices, lactose, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with an awesome roast/hop bitter/sweet and spiciness balance; with no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is an incredible imperial brown ale. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, spices, lactose, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink with the mildly bitter/spicy/drying finish. Not overwhelming on any aspect. Amazing balance of rich malts, fruity/nutty coffee, spices, and lactose flavors; with mild fruity yeast and earthy hops against sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example as expected of the brewery. Not overly roasty.

Keg tap at BrewDog Leicester. Hazy mid- to dark brown. A small ring off--white head and cinsiderable lacing. Oak, horehound, some caramel, sarsaparilla and plum on tge nise. Sweet, herbal taste but the hoppy bitterness latches onti the tongue like a limpet throughout the sip and the long finish. Medicinal and woody notes in the aftertaste. Medium carbonation, full body. Best brown ale I've had in ages. A living reminder of why I love the style.

Bottle from the To Øl Christmas Calendar. Clear, very dark brown, beige head. Malty aroma with mild cinnamon, caramel and coffee. Sweet coffee flavour, licorice, dried fruit, light spice in the finish. Warming, creamy mouthfeel. Nice, especially because the spice is well balanced and not too strong.
