In the spirit of all the exploratory missions deployed across the galaxy — be they spacecraft, Viking or other — we’re constantly probing the world of beer back here on Earth. That quest has brought us to this latest creation, which comes from our brewing team at Stone Brewing – Napa. With a subtle haze reminiscent of some far-off nebula, and further complimented with the juicy flavors of Ella and Citra hops, this beer is most definitely out of this world. Crafted to be enjoyed on Earth, but if intelligent life does exist out there, we’re pretty sure they’ll like it too.

330ml bottle from the Beer Bank, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a murky golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, toffee caramel. The flavour is moderate to strong bitter, with a smooth, rich, malty, dank, piney, light sweet toffee, hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Over medium bodied with average carbonation. An old skool DIPA with a modern twist.

35cl Fles, als Viking Space Probe Hazy Double IPA. Troebelgele kleur, witte kraag. Hoppig, iets kruidig, grapefruit, citrus, iets harsig, wat dennen, mooie hop-combi, tarwe, citroenrasp, degelijk bittere finish. Medium body. Beetje White IPA- achtig. Lekker.

Stone, that is the good news. Otherwise I have another NE style IPA to try, hit or miss. 12 oz bottle sold as a single at the nearest big box supermarket. Best by date of June 19, 2021, I hope it does not effect the session. The bottle is cold and I’m pouring into a cooled, tall beer glass. A nice appearance, I see an opaque, dark orange liquid with a steady film of off-white foam. Nice with the scent also, juicy, tropical and the barest indication of hops. The taste is surprisingly good imho, an aggressively strong maltiness, pineapple, mango, hops, slightly dank and firmly bitter. As I drink down I see some lacing. Fine effort.
