True to its name, Black Mettle presents a decidedly black color topped with a creamy, soft tan resilient head. Aromas of lightly roasted coffee greet the nose accompanied by dark chocolate covered berries, blooming conifers, and lemon wedges. The palate closely follows suit as an initial wave of juniper and sappy pine leads to a refreshing burst of vibrant orange peel and grapefruit zest. The back end lets the roasted malts shine through with a soft wash of smooth blonde roast coffee and fleeting cocoa. With a fluffy mouthfeel, medium body and a present yet gentile bite, Black Mettle’s supportive interplay between the hops and the malt bill makes each sip as unique as it is enjoyable.
STYLE: Double IPA

Can sample at a tasting at Yoav's place. Black, tan foam. Piney fruity hops, roast, coffee, rather dry, bitter finish, medium-bodied. Good.

Can pour from the brewery, Canton. Appearance is opaque black with nice sparkle at the edges of the glass, finger-width attractive foamy light brown head with good retention and nice soapy lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel and pine. Taste follows aroma. Mouthfeel is medium-to-full bodied with thick, frothy texture, average carbonation, mild alcohol warmth and mostly sweet finish offset by light bitterness. Overall, strong aroma and flavor are a good representative of the style but nothing revolutionary or particularly complex here.

Can in a trade with tfontana. Thanks for the opportunity. 10/31/19 canning date. Aroma is slight pine and chocolate with some malt. Nice flavor of roast, soft chocolate, with mild lingering bitterness. Slight hint of citrus peel. Full body with a smooth texture. Delicious!

Very nicely done. Love this for style. Roast and grapefruit, with tangerine peel. Black pour with good head and lacing bitter end with touch of orange. Touch of coffee. Tap at Canton brewery.

Draught @ Five Horses Tavern South End, Boston, MA. Smooth, super hoppy and slightly roasty with some coffee, licorice, loads of pine, citrus, grass and tropical fruits. Quite heavy with coffee notes and also quite hoppy for a black IPA.

Tap @ Trillium. Black coloured. Roasted malts, massive coffee, pine, fairly hoppy and bitter. Med-heavy bodied. A sipper.
