Je hebt altijd ruimte voor een toetje toch? Een Pastry Stout is een zware zoete Russian Imperial Oatmeal Milkstout met smaken die doen denken aan desserts of gebakjes (pastry). Voor Meesterstuk 2020 hebben we gekozen voor een caramel seasalt brownie. Dit bier is lekker hoog in alcohol, volmondig door de havervlokken en zoet door de melksuikers. Door de toevoegingen van cacao, zeezout, karamel en vanille krijg je een to die for caramel seasalt brownie!

(Draught at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam, 28 Feb 2020) Black colour with brief, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, vanilla, hazelnuts and coffee. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, vanilla, hazelnuts, caramel and a generous cacao bitterness in a sweetish finish. Full body, quite sweet. Rich, chewy and really tasty. Very nice.

75cl fles van Deen. Mierzoet en flink bitter tegelijk. Flink veel caramel, melksuiker, maar ook fors gebrand, as, drop, koffie. Weinig subtiel Maar stiekem wel lekker. Heb er wel 2 dagen over gedaan om de fles te legen, mÊt hulp.

Black with a ring tan head. Aroma of big sweet caramel oozing from milk chocolates. Flavour is super sweet, going into a more bitter burnt licorice finish. Full bodied with an alcohol warm finish and soft carbonation.

Pours very dark, muddy brown. No head. Smell is milkchocolate ( of a low quality praline, that is ) . Taste is full, milkchocolate of lower quality (yet still enjoyable ), caramel is mild . Hints of bitterness. A respectable attempt, but misses all the bases of a true pastry RIS. R>oastyness, thickness, complexity, refinement, amazement,... Are all not there. Alcohol is very hidden though.

Tap at at De Paas. Black with not much of a head. Sweet deep roasted chocolate malts. Deep roast. Chocolatey. Moderate sweet and bitter. Full body and soft carbonation. Rich and wholesome.

Karamel noga, fudge, licht zout, melkchocola. Superzoet, met toch wat fruitige roast in de finish. Eigenlijk zwaar over the top, maar dit kan ik wel hebben.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ van Rooij, Culemborg. Pitch black with a beige head. Roasted malts aroma with lots of cacoa and some vanilla. Taste is sweet, almost too sweet at first. After the while the sweetness grows on you and reveals more depth and complexity. Finish is bittersweet and stays for ages. Very nice pastry stout and worthy of the Meesterstuk (Masterpiece) name.

Pretty decent iteration of this series. Fun attempt at a pastry stout. As Jopen is often too sweet, this style might fit them well. Pretty sweet, caramel, chocolate, quite salty. Ends on a heavy bitter note, bit burnt maybe. Good body.
