Bottle from Geers. hazy amber colour, white foam. Complex nose of wood, tart fruit (green apples), some peach. Fruity along with the typical dry hoppy bitterness of the Senne beers. Very nice and interesting beer!

F: big, bit off-white, average retention. C: orange gold, totally hazy. A: woody, funky, fruity, brett, peach, dusty, cellar, old mural painting. T: funky, brett, juicy fruity, peach, rhubarb, bit citrus, gooseberries, dry on the palate, mineral, cellar, not very sour, this is really great connection with fresh fruity tones with old dusty cellar, very refreshing, medium body and carbonation, fully enjoyed, brewed 18/05/16, bottled 07/08/17/, 75cl bottle from the brewery.

Collaboration of Senne with Jester King, a sour ale with the house yeasts (partially cultivated, partially 'wild') from both breweries, aged on wooden barrels - considering the quality both these otherwise very different breweries tend to offer, I was hugely looking forward to try this. From a 75 cl bottle shared with Goedele, bought at Geers near Ghent. Tightly 'membranously' lacing, medium thick, egg-white, stable head over a hazy peach blonde beer with khaki hue, turning into a murky ochre with sediment in the end. Aroma of moldy orange peel, old mattresses, dusty old books, apple peel, sourdough, raw rhubarb, gooseberry juice, sweat, cherry tomatoes, lemon juice, wooden shelves, goat stable, cotton cloth, some very faint urine but fitting in perfectly - in all, very rustic, complex and inviting. Crisp, bright sour ale onset, lots of sour rhubarb, green gooseberries and crabapples, light sweet peachy hint, medium carbo; supple, dry mouthfeel, a tad dusty, with a sourdough-like malt core superseded by ongoing fruit tartness. Bone dry finish (already at this age), further dried by woody tannins (though not too explicitly so), cloth-like accent, deep and late earthy hop bitterness, lingering juicy fruit tartness. Impressive in its elegance and personality - collabs between highly profiled breweries do not always lead to even better beers, but in this case the match seems to work perfectly. Already very dry, but still juicy, complex and rustic - not sure if this evocates a saison the way it was brewed a century ago, as seems to have been the intention, this is rather a modern New World style sour, but a top class one which will certainly gain more depth, dryness and complexity with age - should have bought more than one bottle!

#50 De La Senne. 750 ml. bottle. BBF 07AUG17. Hazy orange, creamy uneven patchy lacing white head. Nose is funk, young green apples funk, pure oak funk, cedar, germinating funky malt, bark bread funk, dry, cider, zest & perfume green apple oak. Massively juicy, funky oat coats your mouth, fermenting green apples, cedar, pure oak perfume, dry, coats the inside of your mouth, lively carbonation happing, funk is wild, almost bit dirty lingers in the back of your mouth, drinkability is absolutely true the roof, tinniest dirties young lambiek funk out there but barely, just barely, dusty attic like something that started fermenting in your fridge, bacteria party sludge, just a wee bit dirty, untamed something, some 7Up lemonade zing in the back. This controlled chaos, funky boy, dirty, this stuff brings the funk home.
