31/12/2017 - 75cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck @Peter & Veerl's place. Hazy brown with red touch, nice bit creamy tanned head. Nose is dark malts, some caramel, fruit, wood, sour touch. Taste is dark malts, dark fruits, some caramel, wood, lots of plum, sour red fruits, vanilla. Damn, this is realy complex and tasty. I already like the normal Goudenband a lot, but this is realy great.

Thanks for sharing! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ Kerstbierfestival 2017. Dark brown amber, red, tanned head on the side, amazing smell pure massive oak soaked in sweet & sour vinegar, low puckering, red fruit,… massive oak taste, cherry, low paint bit harsh but amazing red berries, puckering, sweet & sour vinegar,… Thick sour body. I knew it that these guys can really do it if they want to but at around 20 euro this is steep but it will sell without a question and it is really great beer.

Bottle picked up from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, nr Gent, Belgium, consumed at Lighthouse Keepers Cottages, Lynton, Devon Friday 1st December 2017 Pours a very dark mahogany with a light beige head. Oaky, wet leaves, earthy and with a wet woodiness, the red wine barrel ageing seeps through. Lightly sour and tangy, this is a very good beer, fruity, (cherry) nice. Thanks Dominic (Geers) for suggesting this. A8 A4 T8 P4 4 Ov14 4.0

Thnx to yarric ! Pours dark, ruby copperbrown. Decent white foam with medium low stability. Smell is very fleshy, oak, higher intensity. Fresh tartness. Taste is full, intense oak, glue, fruity. Mildly tart. Very intense. Lovely beer indeed.

Special and limited edition of Liefmans Goudenband, the ultimate classic when it comes to the Eastern Flanders - less tart - side of 'oud bruin', aged on Californian wine barrels. At Just Beer in Kortrijk. Thick, moussy, irregularly lacing, egg-white, creamy head over a more or less clear, dark but fully translucent mahogany-hued bronze brown beer. Aroma is indeed Goudenband - a beer which, through its long history, has experienced a number of ups and downs - at its best, but soaked in the wine barrel treatment: plum wine, blackberry juice, Syrah wine, passionfruit, sweet sherry, oaky 'vanilla', blue grapes, blackcurrant jam, caramel sauce, sour yoghurt, hints of balsamic vinegar, tea, damp earth, wet tree leaves - deep and complex. Very estery, fruity onset, sour blackberry and passion fruit dominance with raisin- or fig-like sweetness woven through it, slight balsamico sourness at the edges but softly so, tempered by a sweet, soft, creamy, 'moelleux' caramelly malt body with even light chocolatey accents; soft carbo, full and bit vinous mouthfeel. The underlying tartness, a combination of fermentation effects and the wine barrels, cuts through the whole and dries the palate, especially towards the finish where it is accompanied by a tart red wine factor and tannic oaky woodiness; ends with that typical tart wine barrel aftertaste, some 'cleanly earthy' yeasty notes, dim but structurally important, herbal background hop bitterishness and lingering caramelly maltiness, as well as blackberry, plum and blue grape notes and a sherry-like, warming alcohol effect. Lovely, complex, rich sour ale, it seems Moortgat is fastly learning from their ventures in the modern American craft beer scene; this is more classy and to the point than that bourbon barrel aged Duvel they released earlier this year and grants the old familiar Goudenband the greatness and depth it deserves. Must revisit a whole bottle of this, this is among the best Liefmans (and, now, Moortgat) beers I ever had.
